SES Engineering Services (SES) delivered a key element of Manchester City Council’s £185m transformation and redevelopment programme at One St Peter’s Square for Elisabeth House General Partner Limited (a joint venture partnership between Argent and the Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund) which provides all the essential elements of an exceptional world-class building.

One St Peter’s Square offers 268,000 sq ft of BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Grade ‘A’ office space in the heart of central Manchester’s business district. The new building, along with Manchester City Council’s transformation and redevelopment of the Square, Library Walk, Central Library and The Town Hall extension, demonstrates the scale of the city’s ambition to transform its civic heart.

Against a backdrop of stiff competition, SES won a hard-fought bidding process in May 2012 to deliver a modular solution for the client. SES completed the design and installation of all M&E works within the new building. Its tireless approach and use of its offsite manufacturing facility Prism to deliver a series of innovative offsite solutions significantly reduced costs, labour hours spent on site and delivered a safer on-site working environment which resulted in direct work savings of 13,000 labour hours.

SES also used pioneering BIM2MOSAIC technology to maximise the benefits of the off-site project elements which were to be delivered. Smart thinking was apparent on this project; we introduced thin wall stainless steel in place of traditional carbon steel on all pipework with a diameter above 100mm. This innovation made the installation significantly lighter and cleaner, and reduced the amount of water treatment required.
