Securing the contract for Edinburgh University’s Data Technology Institute represented a major milestone for SES operations in Scotland.
Working with main contractor McLaughlin and Harvey, we were appointed to supply, install and commission all MEP services and raised access flooring on this pioneering development. The seven-storey building is at the heart of Edinburgh University’s campus and is central to its ambitions to develop world-leading data technologies, data intensive research and data analytics in education, across both Scotland and internationally. The building is home to occupants from the University, as well as industrial collaborators, start-up and spin-out enterprises.
It was important to deliver the required services with as little disruption as possible to the daily life of the campus. To facilitate this, we made full use of our expertise in Building Information Modelling. We also utilised Prism, our dedicated offsite manufacturing facility, to produce ready-made service modules. Another key element was our ‘just in time’ approach to deliveries, keeping a busy working site as clear and safe as possible.
“As the UK’s very first M&E contractor to achieve the BRE BIM Level 2 Certification – the standard required by Government to work on Whitehall-procured projects – we’re proud to be at the forefront of how data is changing the engineering industry. Helping to deliver a world-leading Data Technology Institute was a very exciting and fitting project for us.”
