SES Citylabs Manchester Building Side

Formerly the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Citylabs is the new 100,000 sq ft bespoke-built biomedical centre of excellence which is located on Oxford Road in Manchester, at the heart of Europe’s largest clinical and academic campus, made up of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.

SES Engineering Services (SES) won the £5.6m M&E contract which included category A works to tenant areas and a full category B fit out for a 60-bed medical research facility.

To deliver this prestigious project at the heart of Europe’s largest clinical and academic campus, a critical element of SES’ offering was the ability to deliver substantial time, labour and cost savings through its market-leading prefabrication arm, Prism.

Prism played an integral part in the delivery of this project using 1,650m of pipework and a further 300m of primary ductwork and insulation. Prism delivered a prefabricated building complete with services – a job that would normally take 14 weeks was finished in a single day.

David Taylor, Project Manager, Manchester Science Partnerships commented:

“This new science and research hub in the heart of Manchester’s academic community is a significant advancement in the UK’s healthcare research and development sector. Not only will it provide a vibrant working space for users, it will enable tenants to remain at the forefront of biological innovation.”
