Due to complete in 2025, SeAH Wind’s giant 40-metre-tall, 800m long monopile factory will be the largest of its kind in the world. This pioneering project will support the UK’s goal to fully decarbonise electricity by 2035 and forms part of the fast-growing alternative energy sector.

Appointed by K2 Construction Management on behalf of SeAH Wind, SES will deliver the full mechanical and electrical works for the main facility, working collaboratively with a local supply chain including long-standing steelwork partner, Severfield.

The first major project on the Teesworks site, one of Europe’s largest regenerations, it is expected to be able to produce between 100 and 150 monopiles per year (large steel tubes that form the foundations for the construction of offshore wind turbines). Following production, the monopiles will be transported directly to Teesworks’ new South Bank Quay facility, before heading to the North Sea for installation.

Once completed, the development will offer 1.13million sq ft of high-quality factory space for producing monopiles up to 120m in length, 15.5m in diameter and weighing a staggering 3,000 tonnes.

When fully operational, the facility will play a pivotal role in supporting the government’s commitment to quadrupling offshore wind, where the UK is already number one in Europe, from 15 to 60 GW over the next 6 years.

We are currently on site in the construction phase carrying out high level lighting and complex module busbar installation.

“It is amazing to be involved in the regeneration of the Teesworks site. As a local contractor we value the investment being made in this area and are grateful to be involved in this groundbreaking scheme.”
