The winner of the Insider North East Property Awards was revealed today (22/10/20) and SES Engineering Services (SES) has been successful in scooping the ‘Contractor of the Year’ Award – a significant achievement for the region.
This award was open to North East-based construction contractors (of whatever size) which, in the opinion of the judges, had made the most significant contribution to the regional property industry during the qualifying period. The judges were asked to assess the abilities and capabilities of the companies shown in the property schemes they were involved, including phased developments.
The North East Insider Property Awards judges’ commented:
“SES Engineering Services designs and installs mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services. Using its industry changing in-house VR capability coupled with its tried and tested ‘build-before-we-build’ approach, SES delivered two multimillion-pound projects in the North East during the qualifying period.
“One of these was the Q Block, a state-of-the-art aseptic manufacturing facility for global healthcare manufacturer GSK, at its plant in Barnard Castle. The other was for the Helix Energy Centre, a district energy centre, delivering heating, cooling and electricity through a distribution network to 10 buildings and approximately 500 future homes in Newcastle City Centre.
“The company has seen impressive growth over the last year and has also invested in, and adapted to, the use of digital technology across the business. We were also impressed with its commitment to carbon emission savings and other sustainability issues.”
The other shortlisted North East contractors for this category this year were Trustgreen and Interserve.
Steve Joyce, SES’ Managing Director commented:
“This is an outstanding achievement and I am proud of the collaboration between the North East and Yorkshire regions which have helped win this award.”
Victoria Walton, head of the commercial property team at Swinburne Maddison LLP, the law firm which sponsored the Contractor of the Year Award, said:
“We have supported the Insider North East Property Awards from the very beginning and it is always a privilege to be part of an event which shines a light on the immense property and construction talent that the region has to offer.
“In a year which has seen hospitals built from scratch in just a few days, we are very proud to be sponsoring the Contractor of the Year category at this year’s Awards and to be doing our bit to recognise the critical role which the construction industry has played during this crisis, and which it will no doubt continue to play in the recovery of our regional economy.”
