Hosted by the Leeds Sustainability Institute, The RISE Awards reward the most pioneering initiatives in research, innovation, sustainability and enterprise (RISE).
Following on from last year’s success when it won the Sustainable Developments Award, SES Engineering Services (SES) was highly commended in the Health, Safety and Wellbeing category and, as the overall winner, was presented with the main accolade of the evening, the prestigious Chair’s Award.
Presented to the individual project and/or company which has exhibited competency and consideration across all the categories of the RISE, the Chair’s Award recognised the collaborative approach adopted by SES and principal contractor, Galliford Try when they recently joined forces on the multi-million pound refurbishment of the University of Leeds’ School of Chemical and Process Engineering.
According to the judges, the collaborative approach adopted by SES, Galliford Try and the University of Leeds has resulted in the development of state-of-the-art, purpose built laboratories for research using radioactive materials. Strong collaborative approaches, such as that adopted by SES, ensure UK research maintains a leading international position.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing commendation recognised SES’ safety strategy and its ‘We’re Safer Together – Zero Harm’ campaign, which is embedded in the company’s ethos and promotes a company-wide culture where people are engaged and at the same time empowered to look out for one another by promoting and championing the right behaviours.
Speaking about this latest award-winning success, Steve Joyce, Business Director North and Scotland, SES said:
“To receive this recognition, both acknowledges and rewards the passion and dedication that SES continually demonstrates across every aspect of its business whether it is project or people-led.
“It was particularly pleasing to receive the Chair’s Award. The refurbishment of the School of Chemical and Process Engineering was an incredibly challenging project which, without the collaborative efforts of the construction team, the university and all other stakeholders, would not have been achieved with the same degree of success. I’d like to thank everyone involved in the project for their efforts.”
This year’s RISE Awards took place on Thursday, 14 September at Leeds Marriott Hotel.
