What made you choose this apprenticeship?
I knew I wanted to work within the construction industry, but to have a foot in both on-site interactions as well as working behind the scenes to achieve the end goal. I was looking to do this but without going through the traditional route of university. I knew that doing this apprenticeship would give me the all-rounded structural development in both the technical and behavioural aspects needed to support my career in becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of following in your footsteps?
Don’t feel as though you may not have the right experience to become a surveyor. Most skills are transferable. I came from studying biomedical science to surveying and it has been the best experience so far. Prepare for interviews by really doing your research on the company and look at the previous projects they have worked on and remember to network where possible!
What has been the highlight of your apprenticeship?
The structural and behavioural training that is provided to help us excel in this profession is a key highlight because it gives us a huge insight on working with others in a working environment and your personal life. Also, the satisfaction I get from realising the impact my role has on a project overall is a personal highlight.
