With awards season upon us, it’s a great time to reflect on the incredible achievements within our business. We have a lot to be proud of at SES.  Not only are we working on some of the most complex and pioneering projects in the country, we are also working hard to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for the built environment.

I’m particularly proud of our commitment to improving diversity and delivering social value, exemplified by talents like Sam Johnson, our Regional Social Value Manager. With 24 years of experience at SES, Sam has been a driving force in delivering meaningful change and creating opportunities for hard-to-reach groups.

Determined to break down misconceptions of the industry, Sam has built long-standing relationships with local schools to engage with young females and has joined the Women in Property North West committee to promote collaboration and help attract a wider pool of talent. Within the business she has played a key role in establishing the ‘SES Women’ employee network and has been a mentor for her colleagues further demonstrating her commitment to inspiring and supporting others to thrive.

Sam’s recent nomination for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Design and Build Women In Construction Awards is a testament to her hard work. The prestigious event, led by Michaela Wain, owner of Design and Build UK and a prominent female ambassador in our industry, recognises outstanding contributions of women in construction. Sam’s work embodies our purpose of “reimagining places for people to thrive” and sets a powerful example.

Whilst we can all agree that the built environment still has a way to go in terms of attracting a more diverse workforce, it’s through the efforts of passionate individuals like Sam that we’re making strides.

As we celebrate these achievements, we also look forward to a future where diversity in construction is the norm, not the exception. Here’s to the trailblazers like Sam and Michaela, and to all those working to make our industry more inclusive.
