Leading engineering specialist, SES Engineering Services (SES), has announced a multi-million pound contract win, securing a place on the development of a new £42m joint schools and leisure centre in Ponteland for Northumberland County Council.
On this occasion, SES has been appointed by Kier Regional Building, the council’s main contractor, to provide a comprehensive range of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services.
The new build facility, which has been innovatively designed to link three buildings in a crescent, is being delivered as part of a reorganisation of the Ponteland Partnership which is seeing a £52m investment in schools. The project also supports Northumberland’s Education and Skills Priorities 2017-20 plan.
The new schools will cater for a total of 2,046 nursery, primary and secondary age students and accommodate 245 staff and visitors whilst providing state-of-the-art learning spaces and new community facilities. These include a library, swimming pool, fitness suite, sports courts, a Clip ‘n Climb wall and a soft play area as well as high quality outdoor facilities including a full size 3G pitch and sports fields. In addition to the education facilities, a new fire station will also form part of the development.
During its time on site, SES will benefit from its early engagement with Kier and design engineers, TGA. Given the challenges associated with a group of highly serviced buildings spanning two and three-storeys and catering for the varying teaching and learning needs of students aged 3 to 19 years – SES’ use of detailed model co-ordination will ensure its team will conclude their role in a timely fashion.
Speaking about the latest contract win, SES’ Operations Director North East, Michael Dickinson, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Kier Regional Building on such a major education project for the region. Our extensive experience within both the education and blue light sectors will be key to the smooth delivery of the development.”
Adding his thoughts on the project, Peter Jackson, Leader of Northumberland County Council, said:
“I am sure that SES will be a superb addition to the top team that is constructing our ground-breaking development at Ponteland.
“We are looking forward to providing top class, state-of-the-art facilities in the two new schools and the leisure and community facilities on the site – and high quality mechanical and electrical services will be key to these.”
The project will be complete for the start of the new school year in September 2020.
