Working collaboratively with principal contractor Willmott Dixon, who is working in partnership with Lancashire Constabulary, the Police and the Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, SES has been appointed to provide a full mechanical, electrical and plumbing package to construct a new, state-of-the-art headquarters for Lancashire Constabulary’s West Division in Blackpool.

Marking the force’s largest investment in its history, the new three-storey building, currently under construction on Clifton Road, will replace existing out-dated facilities at Bonny Street.

Working to BIM (Building Information Modelling) Level 2, SES will be responsible for installing a full range of building services including lighting, photovoltaic systems, building management systems, power distribution as well as rainwater drainage systems. The energy efficient building has been designed to meet a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.

The 8,500sqm building will provide Lancashire Constabulary with new contemporary office space, a 42-cell custody suite and a base for local neighbourhood policing and immediate response teams, as well as an investigations hub. It will also be home to a range of specialist teams serving the Fylde coast, Lancaster and Morecambe areas.

This latest project, secured following a competitive tender, was awarded under the national Scape Framework and marks SES’ third new build custody suite it has delivered with Willmott Dixon in the past 12 months, which include others at Barnsley and Sheffield for South Yorkshire Police.

Speaking about the appointment, Steve Joyce, Business Director North and Scotland, SES said:

“I am delighted to have this further opportunity of working in partnership with Willmott Dixon on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary, the Police and Crime Commissioner, on a landmark building for the force which will also benefit the local area.

“This project provides us with an excellent opportunity to build on our growing expertise in the blue light sector and the excellent working relationship we have developed with the main contractor, and the rest of the project team. To overcome some of the challenges we face when working on a facility of this type, our package of extensive MEP services for the building will be designed to meet stringent guidelines as set out by the Home Office.”

Speaking about working in partnership with SES, Richard Wright, Operations Manager, Willmott Dixon added:

“We are delighted to be working with Lancashire Constabulary and the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver the new West Division HQ. As part of the wider project we are working closely with Blackpool Council, Blackpool & Fylde College and the local community to deliver important social value benefits and work opportunities.

“Construction work is progressing well with the structure nearing completion and SES will shortly be joining us to commence the MEP works. Thanks to the excellent working relationship the project team has forged, I’m extremely confident that work on the building will progress smoothly ready for completion in 2018.”
